if you asked me to be blunt. 

and tell you what i thought a family portrait was. 

i would in all honesty tell you this. 

i think it shows your energy. 
it shows your laughter. 
it shows some quiet, tender moments. 
its shows some of your vulnerability. 
it shows the people you love the most. 

its not perfectly framed. 
or perfectly posed. 

you are not all wearing matching outfits. 

you might be at home. where you are most comfortable. 

but mostly. 
it shows your emotion. 
and your love for each other. 

mostly it shows. exactly who you are.

i was introduced to these words this week by the one and only emily adamson.

and they feel pretty good. 

every family that i photograph has a story. a beautiful story. 

this family is no exception. 

i hope these photographs take you back. to a wild wind swept hour on the beach. 

that they reinforce the love you so bravely have for each other.
